Replacement Double Glazed unit in a Barn Door

Not always a straightforward job and having been told by several carpenters ‘ you need a replacement door’ it took this customer 6months before he found me.

A replacement solid Oak Barn Door like this plus the fitting charge would land a four figure bill whilst the replacement d/g unit will be considerably cheaper.

Potential issues that can arise are the glazing beads which are stuck down with VHB tape, an industry standard this tape really lives up to its name -very high bond.

Having glazing beads stuck down with this tape can mean that they break or do come off but in splinters when you attempt to remove them and can result in adjacent units shattering.

It’s difficult to remove the beads as I cannot get any purchase under the bead to lift them so it can be a bit hit and miss.

Replacement is the reverse of removal with new VHB tape inserted into the rebates and then along the face of the new unit before the beads are refitted.
