A main entrance door does take a bit of a beating over time. One not so interesting fact is that a main entrance door will be opened and closed 10’220 times if the property is occupied by just two persons who go out once a day over a period of 1year. After a while the door starts to look a bit tired and requires a birthday to bring it back to its former glory. This door was in such state. Not rotten or ill fitting, just plain tired. To begin with the whole door and its mouldings were sanded with 240 grit . This keyed the surface ready for staining. Filler was worked into the joints . Methylated spirits soaked into a lint free cloth cleaned the timber to eradicate any dust or debris remaining 4 coats of quick drying wood stain over a period of one day was applied. This will be good again now for another 5yrs ( 51’100 ) openings and closures.
